Mario Cossa: Playwright & Lyricist

Mario has been involved in musical theatre since the age of four, when he started studying tap dancing. At about age 10 he started writing plays and directing the neighborhood kids in back porch productions (a la Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland.) Over the years, he gained experience as a playwright and director through original environmental theatre projects with the Phoenix Nest Earth Arts Center, in New Hampshire, and children’s and youth theatre with the Children’s Performing Arts Center and ACTINGOUT in Keene, NH. His directing credits range from classics, like Death of a Salesman, to more contemporary fare, like Jake’s Women. His musical theatre directing and choreography include Jacques Brel, Annie, Pippin, Oliver!, and Dames at Sea. As a choreographer, he has tackled big dance shows, like No! No! Nannette, Cabaret, Kiss Me Kate, and Babes in Arms, as well as more movement-focused shows, like Into the Woods, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and 1776. In January, 2009, Mario moved to the San Francisco Bay area to pursue his dream of mounting the world premiere production of Sex Tapes for Seniors (the original name of this show.) As an actor/singer/dancer of the “Baby Boomer Generation” he is excited to have created a musical for which his contemporaries could be featured.

Tyler Flanders: Composer

Tyler is a recent graduate of Ithaca College in New York State, where he majored in Musical Composition, spent a year studying opera in Italy, and composed his first opera. He served as Musical Director and Arranger for the staged reading of Sex Tapes and went on to compose an entirely new score for the show. He also served as Musical Director for Mario’s production of Dames at Sea, for which he also played the lead role of “Dick.”

Joshua Raoul Brody: Additional Music and Arrangements

Joshua moved to San Francisco in 1974 and soon hooked up with the Rick & Ruby Show, with whom he went on national tours (opening for and accompanying Robin Williams) and played for network television (including Mork & Mindy and Merv Griffin). Independently he has provided musical services for Lily Tomlin, Penn & Teller, Florence Henderson, and Tom Waits. He has played in a wide variety of settings: the Universal Amphitheater, El Teatro Campesino, the Guthrie Theater, New York’s Copacabana, and a locked ward at Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute. Brody’s theater work runs the gamut from fully composed scores (such as Goddess of the Hunt, a mini-opera with libretto by Merle Kessler) to instantly improvised accompaniment with groups such as True Fiction Magazine. He has worked on projects as diverse as: the Blake Street Hawkeyes’ production of David Schein’s Reverence for the Dead, a musical comedy about Lee Harvey Oswald, earning a best score nomination from the Bay Area Critics’ Circle; conducting the San Jose Rep production of the turn-of-the-century musical, Tintypes; and, designing music and effects for Marga Gomez’s A Line Around the Block and Josh Kornbluth’s Ben Franklin Unplugged. Joshua became one of the Musical Directors/Keyboardists for the 2010 SF Production of SEX TAPES FOR SENIORS, and worked on the re-scoring and arranging of several numbers.
